Dancing With Death's Daughter

The battle in the night.
No problemo

It sounded like a small animal was getting close to us, so everyone grabbed their handle of the weapon.
It was just Grug.
He came back from the camp and told the villagers welcomed to our help.
Grug continued to explain what was going to happen that night
There were two groups of two goblins circling around the camp watching for intruders.
Inside of the camp there were several tents for a living.
The orcs made a fire pit just south of the biggest tent in the camp and spent most of their time there at night.
We carefully moved towards the camp to see it with our eyes.
It looked like Grug’s information was correct.
The torchlight of the two patrols slowly moved clockwise around the camp, and there was a large campfire in the middle.
We had a brief meeting to confirm our tactics.
But Grug suddenly runs into the camp. He saw his friends coming towards us.
“Stop Grug!”, everyone said quietly. But he didn’t.
“Damn it! We are In the middle of the briefing.”, Chase muttered.
Rose shrugged her shoulders, signaling the beginning of the mission.
Chase and I went straight to the fire pit from the north and Rose went around the tent, flanking the orcs.
I tried to keep quiet but unfortunately I couldn’t keep my chain mail from making noise.
The one of the orcs flipped his head around.
It looked like he noticed something, but didn’t realize.
We couldn’t turn back now. I hope he was drunk.

He stopped looking around and looked straight at us.
He threw his cup away pointed his finger right at me.
“Uh-oh! They noticed us.”, Chase said and started to charge.
It looked like the orcs were ready to fight.
I thought it would be easy for us to handle those three orcs but, I’ve been wrong before.
I followed Chase and swing my mace at his left temple, giving him a one-way ticket to hell.
But the orc ducked smiling.
I almost lose my balance swinging so hard.
“What the….”, I said, but luckily I could keep stand in the ground.
Chase ducked the enemy’s attack and hit orc with his sword.
Ah, he did better than I did, I already had a wound.
“Damn it! why doesn’t my body do what I tell it to duling battle?”, I asked myself.
“Am I too nervous? No! I should be calm.
I have enough training and experience to let me easily survive a battle of this level.”, I said to myself.
“Look! It trapped it’s foot in the mud, I continued.
Nice! I could predict his motion.
“Say goodbye to your friends, dumb ass!”, I said and swung my mace.
But the orc accidentally turn its body and twisted. My mace hit the ground.
I felt like my actions were being controlled by the god of bad fortune. I might cursed somehow.
I felt my eyesight fade.
“This isn’t a good time to have flashback!”
The next thing I realized the orc was down.
The flashback had only lasted a fraction of a second.
Chase fought with two orcs behind me.
Rose was running away from the biggest orc around the tent.
I ran to help her fight the monster and grabbed his huge axe.

Chase was fighting with two orcs and got injured.
Fighting two orcs was too much for him.
I cast cure-wounds to back him up, then ran towards Rose.
The biggest orc with the ugliest face was swinging his huge axe and chasing after Rose.
Rose stopped shooting her arrows and concentrated on keeping away from the axe.
The monster had gotten several arrows in his body, but he didn’t care.
The goblins joined the fight and the orc stopped to fight them.
He swung his axe at the goblins who were able to dodge.
It looked like a battle between a cow and flies.
Thanks to the goblins, Rose could keep a safe distance from the orc’s attack.
I entered melee with the orc and swung my mace at him to gauge his reaction.
I hit his shoulder. He fixed his gaze upon me.
It looked like he had taken enough damage to stop him, but he still swung his axe fiercely.
He knew Rose would renew firing at him, but he continued to fight.
My next attack made him fall to his knees.
The goblins stopped moving and focused on bringing him down.
It looked like the end of his life.
But the very next instant his axe came flinging from our blind spot.
It was too late to dodge his attack.
I kept my shield tight to my body, but the power of his attack thundered through my shield and shook my body.
I might have died if I hadn’t blocked the attack.
However the Goblins couldn’t dodge it.
One of them fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
Immediately after, he swung his axe back the way it came.

“Damn it! How am I going to survive this?”, I screamed and swung my mace into its orbit.
The trajectory of the axe was changed ever since slightly which probably save my life.
Rose’s arrow hit his chest, drawing his attention to her.
Twisting towards Rose, he slipped in the mud and lost his balance.
This was my chance to strike the final blow.
My mace connected with his head and smashed it.
His body slowly fell to the ground.
He took his last breath.
I surveyed the battlefield.
Chase had finished his battle and he was casting cure wounds.
The big fight was finished.
The goblins were looked very happy to have won the fight.
“Congratulations Grug, but sorry about your buddy who died.”, I said.
“No, no problemo. He is weak, easy to die. I felt he would die tonight.”, Grug said and cackled.
We didn’t have time to congratulate ourselves.
The orc’s friends were coming next morning to pick up the rocks.
We cured each others injuries to prepare for the next fight.
According to Grug’s information, the enemies were coming to the village from the western road.
And one more interesting piece of information was one of them would be a spell caster.
This would be my first time fighting a wizard.
Our current advantage was that we knew where and when they would come.
We gathered all of the information and planned to ambush the enemy at the narrow spot near the village entrance.
Grug gave us a huge rug that was soaked in plenty of some sort of oil.
We laid out the rug on the ground and covered it with fallen leaves.
Such was the plan
We hide behind a tree until the enemy came. When they would come into the trap,
Rose would set them on fire with an arrow.
We took a rest until the enemy appeared.

What did you say?

We caught one of the goblins.
Chase had it pinned to the ground by the Rose and I caught up to him.
It looked excited by what was going on and was yelling something with his language.
But we have no idea what he was trying to say.
What the hell.
No one has a language translating spell in our party.
“It is going to take a long time to get to the point.”, Chase said.
“Free, me free.”, the goblin said.
“Hey, looked at that, he can speak our language.”, Rose said. “Can you speak our language?
Do you want me free you?”,
“Yes, Free!”, the goblin said again.
“No, we can’t free you yet.”, Chase said and continued to ask questions.
“What were you doing here? Where are you from?”
“Carry rock, here is many good rocks”, the goblin replied.
“I don’t care why you need them, but you should not take rocks from the bridge.”, Chase demanded.
“Why? This is very good shape and it’s free.”
“The rocks in the bridge aren’t to be stolen. Go to a mountain side, there are a lot of rocks.”
“Mountain is very far and hard to carry also shape is not good for build a tower.”, the goblin responded.
“A tower? What are you making for?”, Chase asked, shocked.
“I don’t know! But Wizard said so. He loves squared shaped rocks.”
“Bummer, this job won’t be a simple one.”, Rose said.
“They threaten our village to carry the rocks everyday otherwise kill us. See? We are not wrong. Let me free!”, the goblin asserted.
“We can’t let you carry rocks from the bridge.”, Chase said.
“But Orc kill my family! Can you help me to attack the Orcs?”, the goblin asked.
“What?”, we all asked in unison.
“Me, Grug”, he told us his name." Okay? Let me free. I don’t run away. No where to go for me."
Chase set him free, but kept an eye on him.
We decided to have a quick chat about what our next step should be, but we needed more detailed information from Grug.
“Well, the same old story. What are we gonna do?”, Rose said.
“Please stop complaining! But at the realistically, Can we trust him?”, Chase asked.
“I don’t think he could make up a story like this on the fly. Why can he speak our language?
He might have needed to learn our language for some reason.
If he wanted to become a legitimate merchant, he wouldn’t need to steal rocks at midnight.
It makes sense that the most likely reason he’s here stealing rocks is that he’s being threatened by someone powerful.”, I said my opinion.
“I agree. I don’t have any reason to disbelieve him. Okay, let’s get more details from Grug.”, Chase said and called Grug to our side.
“Hey Grug. Let me you ask for details about your village. How far is it from here, how many enemies are there in your village?”
“Will you help us?, Ok. One, two, three,… Many orcs and goblins are scouting during the night. The wizard will come by morning to pick up the rocks.”, Grug said.
“There are about 4 orcs and at least two goblins scouting around. Hey, it sounds like too much for a single battle.”, Rose said.
“No worry, goblins are villagers. Goblin hates orcs.”
“But I don’t think the villagers know about our plan.”
“Of course not. But I will tell my friend. Follow me!”, Grug said and went into the woods.
“Ah, wait! Stop! Damn it!”, Rose screamed, but Grug never stopped.
“Don’t worry. We will be fine.”, Chase said and we followed Grug.
When we went in the woods, we noticed light deeper in the woods.
It looked like two torched moving clockwise around the camp, and a campfire in the middel.
Grug came to our side and told us he would go to his friends and convince them to join our plan.
We went behind a tree and watched the camp waiting.

Go East.

“Hummmm, I have nothing to do today.”, I found myself saying out loud.
I went to the hotel and paid for tonight.
The room was the same as last night.
But, It was still too early to go bed, when I got to the hotel.
I went to the bar and ordered a glass of beer.
The taste of the beer made me relax.
I don’t know why, but I tried to dig my memory.
“Who am I? Where did I come from?”, I couldn’t recall anything.
I just felt an indescribable, vague fear.
I stopped thinking about it and went to bed.
A new day had already come to the world.
I talked to myself, “Today is the day I go on the quest.” while I went down the stairs.
When I went to the restaurant, Chase and Rose were already there.
“Hey TJ, we just ordered breakfast. Do you want me to order the same dish for you?”, Chase asked. “Ah, The Ham and cheese toasted sandwich and onion soup set as usual?”, I asked to Chase. He gave me the thumbs up and he turned to a waitress and ordered one more set with his raised single finger. Chase and Rose were checking their equipment for the upcoming adventure. Chase had a basic document issued by the barrack. Chase said it proves that we were working under the barracks’ order. This kind of document helps around the border of the kingdom or to prevent trouble. I asked Chase and Rose if we could drop by the magic school to pick up my ring before leaving Dublin.

At the magic school the spell casting was done. Zach explained the ring to me.
He said this ring is able to store magic.
The ring basically functions this way. It has the capacity to store magic spells.
It can store up to 3 spells, but stronger magic takes up more space.
Currently, it has ‘grease’, ‘sleep’, and ‘cure light wound’, stored in it.
“How can I use a Grease spell? Is it for maintaining steel machines and weapons?”, I asked. "Oh, don’t use it for that. This spell summons a huge amount of grease. It’s extremely flammable. For example, in the middle of a battle, you could cast it a group of enemies and catch them all on fire.", he chuckled. “Sounds fun, right ?”

Several hours had passed since we left the city of Dublin.
While walking down the road to the east, we had conversations about what the best tactics for a basic field battle for a three man party might be.
We had several ideas the general tactics were like this:
The fighter goes to the front line without thinking as soon as he sees the enemies.
A caster casts support spells to support the battle. For example, some kind of enchanted spell for his ally. Then the other scouts the battlefield and gives feedback to his allies, if possible, provides cover with a ranged weapon.
“Yes, we agree with that”, Rose said.
“Does someone have the ability to enchanting weapons? Or battle song?”, I asked.
“I can enchant weapons.”, Chase said.
“I wish, I were better at singing. You could run into the battle. Chase!”, I said.
And we laughed together. We spent the whole day with walking and chatting about it.
We walked past the vast farmland around Dublin and it was getting a little bit dark outside. It didn’t meet many people along the road all day, but the evening we saw a small party coming towards us from the opposite direction.
It looked like a donkey and three guys wearing dark colored hood.
I had a bad feeling about this silhouette. I felt like we have met before.
As we walked closer to each other, I became more and more convinced.
It’s them! The necromancer and his servants. The servants might be the reanimated corpse.
“Greetings, Gentlemen.”, The guy who led the merchants begin the conversation.
“Well, well, well, you are the people we met before when I was to the West”
“You like my potions right? Oh! I have some good items for you today. Let me show you something.”, He said and started digging into his bag.
“No, we have plenty of items for traveling. We can’t carry anything more.”, Chase said.
He stopped digging for items and turned his face to us without moving his body.
“Well, No problem. We will be able to meet each other soon because we have a special bond. Hee hee hee.”
“Yeah, Sure! See you soon.”, we said and walked away immediately.
“I don’t know why I feel so bad whenever I see him. But I feel like he might have anticipated that we were going this way today.”, Chase said.
“I felt the same way. It can be chance.”, Rose said.
After a short silence, Chase proposed to make camp tonight.
We went off a little bit from the road to construct the fire pit. It was very easy to find firewood around here.
Rose started to make soup. Chase opened the map and check the schedule with me.
We were on schedule. We were a little bit past the half way to the bridge.
We would be able to arrive at the bridge before sunset tomorrow.
Rose looked like she was finished cooking and served soup to us.
It tasted quite good. She was better cook than I thought.
I couldn’t stop thinking of the Kobold’s soup.
Compared to that disaster, Rose’s soup was like a dinner prepared by a master Sheff.
After dinner, I took first watch for our rest.
Nothing had happened that night.

When on an important mission, one must wake early.
Rose woke me up and gave me a cup of soup.
We extinguished the fire and started traveling. The sun rose high in the sky and air grew warm. We walked at a high pace until noon. We took a rest on the side of the road.
Shortly after we started to walk along the street, we saw a small shadow far down the street. The shadow disappeared into the woods. We are slow to react.
“Was that a Kobold ? It’s no good that we are seeing so many Kobolds this close to a big city.”, Chase said. Chase looked like he wanted to know where it came from.
But, it was too late to chase it. We continued to go along the road.
We arrived at the bridge just as the sun was setting.
Indeed, the bridge was damaged just as Wulf had said.
Some of the big blocks were missing from the guard rails and small pieces were missing from the ground. The damage was not yet critical, but, if it continued it might soon become unusable. The damage didn’t look like it was from normal use.
Also, we found the weird scratches on the edges of many blocks.
It looked like someone removed blocks with a lever.
We decided to make camp under the bridge to watch it over the night.
We made a small fire pit and ate a simple dinner.
Chase and Rose went to their sleeping bags and fell asleep.
I took first watch. This routine was becoming standard.
I could feel someone’s eye on us, but nothing happened that night.
When we all talked at breakfast the next morning, all said the same thing:
Nothing happened, but we all felt someone was watching us.
We cleaned up the fire pit and started to move to the north.
We were acting like we were heading north, but really we were looking for a good place to watch the bridge.About a half mile north from the bridge, we found a good place to watch.
It was a big tree in the woods. I climbed up the tree and found a good branch for watch.
I had a perfect angle of the bridge. It was more comfortable than I thought it would be and it seemed safe despite my being high off the ground. It looked like chase was struggling to climb up on a branch but, he finally settled on a branch underneath mine. Rose was terrible at tree climbing. She spent more than an hour climbing up the tree. Nothing had happened by sunset, but that was to be expected.
A crime usually happens in the dark, when the criminal is dumb.
It was not so late at night, but there was no one crossing the bridge.
I guess travelers already know the safety issue about travel in the dark around the bridge.
“A small group is heading to the bridge.”, Chase suddenly said.
“Yikes! They started removing the floor,” Rose said as she started to descend the tree.
“Bingo, that’s the target. Everyone hurry!” Chase and I dropped down to the ground, but Rose was still in the tree. She is really no good at climbing.
We ran towards the bridge, forgetting to worry about how quiet we were.
When they noticed us they stopped breaking the bridge and begin watching us.
“It’s goblins, five of them. Damn it, they noticed us!”, Chase yelled.
“Yes they did! Catch them!”, Rose said and broke out into a dash.
They looked confused, but suddenly started to run away in different direction. One went down under the bridge, the one went towards the woods, the others went east.
But Chase was able to catch one of them.

The City of Dublin-2.
Room seeker

The main street of Dublin was vacant and dark.
But some light spilled out from restaurants and bars.
I arrived at the Laughing Ogre.
The restaurant was busy with dinner.
And I heard someone call my name.
It was Chase from the table in the right corner of the room.
“Hey, what’s going on?”, he asked me.
“Well, not much. I really need a money. I could not do what I wanted without any money. I really feel like everything costs too much.”, I responded.
“That sounds rough.”, he said, and he called the waitress to the table to ordered 2 more beers.
A few minutes, later the waitress brought 2 beers.
“Don’t worry, TJ, it’s on me. For your bad day!”
“Thanks Chase.”
The beer was to my liking (taste).
The waitress was still standing by the side of our table and talking with Chase.

It looked like he used this inn quite often.
“Interesting! Where are you from TJMax? What happen to you?”, the waitress asked me very quickly.
“What did you talk about with Chase?”, I asked.
“What happened to you? You were in the cave, right? So what happened? Oh, by the way, I’m Lydia. Nice to meet you.”, she said.
I thought to myself that women like to gossip. It seemed to be especially touring right now.
“Well, actually I don’t remember anything about why I was there. (I don’t remember why I was there at all.)”
“Did you lose your memory? It’s(You have) Amnesia. Cool!”
“It’s not a cool. It’s quite a bother.”
“But If I had amnesia, and a cool looking guy helped me…..”, she kept talking.
Then a loud voice interrupted our conversation.
“Lydia! Stop goofing around! Serve those dishes to table #2. Hurry!”, her boss ordered.
“Ooops! My boss is getting mad.”, she said, and went back to the serving counter.
Chase and Rose and I decided when we would visit barracks tomorrow.
“Okay, see you then.”, I said and went towards the door.
“Hey, how about you spend tonight in this inn?”, Chase said.
“Are you Ghana paying?”

Chase paid for me.
Then a few minutes later, the innkeeper gave me a key for the night.
It was getting late, so I went to my room.
It wasn’t completely clean. But everything that I would need was there.
I took off my belt and put it on a chair and laid down on the bed.
Then I gradually recalled the events of the day.
I wasn’t sure if I was asleep or not, but, suddenly there was a loud knock at my door. And some
muttering.“That’s weird, I can’t get the door open.”
I had a bad feeling about this.
With him being so loud, I had no choice but to go to the door.
When I opened the door, there was a drunk guy laying down on the floor.
“What are you doing here? It’s not your room.” I asked him.
“What? Oh, the door is open!”, he mumbled and he dove into my room faster than you would expect a drunk man to.
“Oh! What the hell is this! Hey, that’s my bed!”
He was already asleep. I grabbed his legs and dragged him out of my room.
But, again, he dove into my room really quickly.
This was becoming an endless loop, I would need to stop it.

He had already begun snoring.
“This guy is a monster.”
I could have cut off his head and thrown it out the window if I had wanted to.
But he didn’t seem to be any real monster.
I went to the front desk and asked for help with this situation.
The innkeeper looked like he was going to call a city guard.
Shortly after, 2 city guards came into the inn.
They asked me a few questions to prove if it was my room.
I told them that I had the key to the door.
The city guards accepted my explanation and went upstairs.

When we came into the room, he was still snoring.
The guards woke his sorry up asked him if this was his room.
“What? Of course, I have a room key.”, he said, and showed us a key. “But the weirdest thing was that I couldn’t open it.
Luckily, the door magically opened by itself!”
Isn’t that amazing?!"

One of the city guards asked him “Is there any way that you can prove this room is yours?”to me.
“I can open this door with my key, and my stuff is on that chair” I responded to him.
“Then everything is clear now. Sorry for bothering your night. Have a good night, sir.” the guard said.
Then the other city guard grabbed the drunk man’s neck and brought him out of my room.
“You are going to spend tonight in jail, dumbass.”, the guard said.
“But I have a key…..”
“It’s too late.”
Through the wall I heard their conversation getting weaker.
But it sounded like he continued his excuses.

I thought, finally I will be able to have a good sleep.
But there still one more problem.
The bed smelled terrible bad. It reminded me of Kobold cave. And I couldn’t tell which one was worse.
Luckily I passed out.

I woke up to the sounds of birds chirping around the window.
The sun was already high.
I guess, I overslept.
I went down to the dining hall, Chase had already finished his breakfast.

I ordered breakfast and tried to catch up.
The served breakfast was quite good.
It was a good start to the day.
We went to the barracks and met with Wulf.
It looked like Chase and he knew each other.
He had asked Chase and Rose to perform the mission.
We received our reward from him and divided it by three.
He informed us three jobs that he needed done.

“If you are having trouble with money, these adventures pay well.”,he said.
We had a small conversation about each offer and decided to go investigate the damaged bridge.
We planned to meet at the hotel, and then I went to the Magic school.

I opened the entrance door and everything was the same as yesterday except Zach’s presence at the front desk.
“Greetings, Oh! You are the man who had the interesting ring.”
“Hey, here is the 5 gold. Please let me know if you finished the detection or the spell casting, or whatever.”
I just dropped by the magic school and then went to the weapon shop.
The shop owner showed me the inventory.
All of the items were too expensive.
But I felt that my equipment was poor.
I didn’t know where this feeling came from.

I wasn’t sure why I felt that way. The armor itself wasn’t actually bad – maybe a few rings were broken.
Perhaps, before I lost my memory, I had been used to better armor.

The City of Dublin.
No money no life

I followed Chase to the church.
He looked like he needed to go meet with someone somewhere.
I had some random conversations with the people who were inside of this building.
But, there wasn’t anything interesting nor anything, so I had nothing to do until the night.
I decided to go outside.

I went to the billboard and checked the posters.
There were 3 posters.
The first one was an old wanted poster for a bandit leader, dead or alive.
“Hummmm…”, I thought to myself,“That 50,000 gold bounty looks pretty good.”

The next was from someone looking for people to help him find new flavors.
“A gourmet treasure hunt? Ramen Chya-Shyu pork hunting.. something like that?

The last one …I forgot.
I guess, it’s not my taste.

When I was wondering what next to do and how best to prepare for the next adventure,
the tall tower made itself noticed.
I remembered it was a magic school, and that I had a ring with a special aura about it.
I thought there might be someone who could detect what this ring does.
I knocked on the door, but there was no response.
I said hello and opened the entrance door.
Inside was a reception room.

The room was surrounded by a stone walls without windows.
The room was lit despite though there were no lamps or torches in the room.
There were 4 wooden doors in the walls.
A square shaped red carpet covered the floor, and there is a large wooden desk was in the middle of the carpet.
And there was a hard-working broom sweeping the floor without any help…!
“That’s the spirit! What’s your name? ", I asked it.
“…..”, Of course it didn’t reply.
“Oh that’s a bummer!”
He could sweep a floor, but not talk.
I named him Roomba.
If he could talk someone that would be the best receptionist for a Magic school.
But, because he couldn’t, there definitely should have been someone to greet visitors.
One of the doors opened and a man came out.

“Greetings, sir. What Can I help you with today?”, he asked.
“I have a ring that I feel has a special aura about it. Is it possible for you to detect what it does?”, I asked him.
“Sure, let me have a quick look at it.”, he requested.“Oh, It is very interesting. If you allow me to take this ring for one day, we should be bale to identify it.”
“This spell normally costs 15 or so gold to cast. I feel that your ring might be worth one hundred gold or even more.”
I remembered just how empty my coin purse was and replied “I don’t have much money now.”
“Okay, how about you let me use your ring as a homework assignment for my students, and I’ll give you a discount. We can perform the spell for just 5 gold.”
“Are you proposing to use my ring as a study material for your students?”
“That’s not bad. But Honestly I don’t have a money. Nothing.”
He stood speechless.
“Thank you for your proposal, but I’ll come again later. Can I take my ring back?”, I asked.
“Oh, sure.”, he handed over the ring. We await your return! May Amaterasu bless you!", he called, as I walked away.
I went outside. It was dark already.
How long was I in that building?
It seemed only a few minutes to me, but apparently looked a few hours has passed.
Oh well, I thought to myself, and headed to the “Laughing Oger” to meet with Chase and Rose

The way to Dublin

Chase went to Rose’s side and took care of her as much as he could.
His spell can cure physical damage immediately, but she didn’t wake up.
She needed a good night’s rest.
Actually, we were all exhausted, so all that we could do that night was to get a good rest.
We hoped there would be no more fighting and wouldn’t have to move.

The kidnapped people were gathering around the entrance of the cave.
They talked with each other and looked very relaxed.
Eventually, they were relieved from the fear of the monsters and endless hard work.

We had a short conversation about how to spend the night and plan for the trip back.
Dublin was about 2 days away on foot.
We thought that it was not a good idea to fall asleep in the wild field.
We decided to a rest in the cave.
There was a small room with a campfire and some sleeping bags.
The pot on the fire didn’t smell very good.
I wasn’t familiar with this smell, but I could say that it was bad.
The kidnapped people were starting to share the soup and ate it without hesitation.
The soup was served to Chase, Rose, and me.
I scooped my soup and brought it to my mouth.
Oh, Damn it! It tasted so bad! I almost threw up everything in my stomach.
“Oh, what the hell is this furry tail?! A squirrel? Are those… ears?!
Is this a fucking rabbit?!”, I blurted out.
I was wondering how the people could eat it so easily.
Chase and Rose looked at each other and stopped moving their spoons.
We all felt the same way.
I guess, the kidnapped people must have had gotten used to this soup taste.
This must have been the only way they could have survived in this cave as slaves.
The Kobolds must have served this kind of food to the people to keep them working as slaves.
That’s the only explanation that makes sense or, maybe,
The kobolds thought this was the best food to serve people.

I was, apparently, lucky to not have woken up and be fed this disgusting food.
We spent some time relaxing and chitchatting before everyone went to the sleeping bag.
The small room got quiet.
I couldn’t hear anything but the burning camp fire.
Now it was time to fall asleep.
But the misery of this cave knew no bounds.
The sleeping bags smelled like moldy wet cats.

Damn it! I couldn’t fall asleep with this God-awful smell.
I gave up on using the stinky sleeping bag.
I knew that I wouldn’t be able to get any sleep in such a wretched place.
But I couldn’t recall anything even a minute after laying down in that God-forsaken sleeping bag.
After a while, I felt someone looking at my face.
I could feel his breath near my face.
It smelled like bug soup.
I had trouble seeing what it was, but this smell like Kobold.
Damn it! I thought I had killed them all.
I opened my eyes and went to take my weapon, but I couldn’t move the way I wanted.
I still couldn’t recognize what it was.
The shadow grabbed a dagger, tackled me, and thrusted it into my chest.
The fear gripped me, paralyzing me.
I couldn’t feel the pain anymore, just his breath.
Suddenly, I was released from my bindings.
I snapped up, and the fire was burning, and the walls were reflecting its light.
It was just a nightmare, nothing more.
There was no monster, and I was completely fine.
Everyone kept sleeping.
I didn’t feel good enough to close my eyes, but it didn’t take a long time for me to fall back asleep.

When I woke up again everyone had begun already started talking about what next to do.
It seemed like they had decided to go to Dublin.
Rose woke up, but she still needed Chase’s support to sit up.
It seemed like she too had recovered from her nightmare.
He cast healing spell on her.
We all slowly made our way out of the cave.
The air was fresh and the sunlight made us feel good.
The way to Dublin took us through the woods.
We headed north for quite some time.
These woods were not very thick and there was a path leading north,
so it wasn’t difficult to get to the major road.
Something or someone must use this path often.
This must have been the path that the kobolds used to attack the merchants traveling the road.
We went through the woods and came to the major road heading to Dublin.
It went through a long clearing, and we floowed it east.
A half of a day later, the landscape changed from the woods turned into a grassy littered with rock field.
As night began to fall, we rested in the field. We made camp in the field
The view was beautiful.
I felt like what happened to me was already a long time past.
After a few more hours the sun went down and it was getting dark outside.
Wolves were howling.
Our party decided to get rest on the green field that night.
Chase asked everyone to help him make a camp fire.
We needed the campfire to keep animals away and warm us up during the night.
Some of the people brought rocks to make a fire pit and the others brought some berries small game to eat.
Those guys really got used to survival life.
Chase, Rose and I decided to take turns taking watch 3 hours at a rime.
I wanted uninterrupted sleep, so I took watch for the first 3 hours.
Nothing happened during my watch.
That was a good start.
I woke up Chase. I hoped no one would disturb my slumber.
I closed my eyes and could still feel the light of the camp fire.
The field crickets chirping.
After what seemed like just a minute, someone started waking me up.
“Damn it!” I said “I don’t wanna get up until the sun rises!”
But I quickly realized everyone was ready to go.
Ooops, I had apparently fallen asleep so deeply that it took them quite some time to wake me up.
Everyone started traveling to Dublin so did I.

After walking for half a day, someone came from the opposite direction of the road.
They looked like merchants with a donkey carrying their wares.
Perhaps they had come from Dublin.
We encountered in the middle of the road.
They all wore robes, but the two that weren’t speaking kept their hoods up,
Casting shadows on their faces, preventing me from seeing what they looked like.
One of them started to speak to us. He was very kindly, but he spoke in a weird way.
His voice was higher pitched than I had expected.
The man who was talking started pitching his products to Chase.
He was eagerly trying to sell whatever he could, but it
Looked Chase didn’t have an interest in his merchandise.
I, however, was interested in one of his items. “Hey, do you have any cure potions?”
“Sure, sure!, You are interested in potions, aren’t you?” he said.
His hand started digging out something from his pouch.
The pouch must have been messy. He couldn’t find what he wanted very quickly.
“Got it! He finally exclaimed. Here you are! A red potion.
This one is good. I can sell to you for 7 gold”
“I only have 4 gold. Oh well, thank you sincerely anyway.”
“Oh! 4 gold?! But 7 gold is already a great discount! After all,… blah, blah…, the man kept talking and talking, but I just tuned him out.
But, he gave me a look, and caught my attention “By the way, you said thanks sincerely, right?”
I said"Yes. I did."
“All right. Deal! "
I told him thanks, and gave him 4 gold.
He smiled and turned back to the road.
“Do you realize he was a Necromancer, right?” Chase asked me.
“What? I didn’t notice at all.”
“Look, You could only see the shadow of the leader and the donkey, the other two of his servants didn’t cast their shadows.”,he said.
“I see. If that’s true, it’s interesting a Necromancer who can control the dead body was next to me.”
“You are a lucky guy.
If he had gotten mad with your haggling,we might have had big trouble with them.”,he said.
“But, I’m a little curious about what you said.”
“What do you mean?”
“You said ‘sincerely’, right? Perhaps that 3 gold discount he gave you wasn’t actually a discount.”, Chase mused.
“Maybe he took something from you without you realizing.”
“Like what?”,I asked.
“For example, a small piece of your soul or something like that.”, Chase answered.
“Damn it! Why didn’t tell me when I was talking to him?”
“Hey, hey easy tiger. It’s just a joke.”,he said.
“It’s not funny, dumbass.”

Finally, we arrived in Dublin.
This city looked well organized by the mayor.
The main street was wide enough for a large horse wagon.
Dublin must have mainly developed through trade.
There was a statue of Amaterasu in the center of a small Court on the north side of town.
Chase explained that he was a cleric of this church.
The statue served as a sundial, with the Sun Goddess serving as the gnomon.
I heard that around 10 in the morning, the court is full of women gossiping
, and around 3pm, there are many workers talking with each other over tea.
The kidnapped people said thank you to us and went to the mayor’s office to report what had happened to them.
Chase and Rose said that they were going to the Church.
I decided to go with them because I had no money.
I thought the Church might give me a place to stay for a while.

Escape from Kobold Cave

3 -

I checked his dead body for find something I can use.
I found 4 gold pieces from a small skin bag and dried bugs that weren’t worth anything to me.
The leather armor he was wearing not my size but I took it just in case.
I felt really uncomfortable taking the items off the dead body.
I look through the small chests against the wall.
One of the chest’s lids was already slightly ajar, I opened it all the way, making a squeaking sound and peered inside there wasn’t nothing special.

I found a one handed mace, a chain shirt. In the other chest a small wooden shield, a short bow, arrows, and a quiver, which were quite ordinary.
I put on the chain shirt, and took the small wooden shield in my left hand.
I hooked the one handed mace on the left side of my belt to make it easier to grab for when I might need it. I put the other items in my inventory.

The barrels were looked like plain water tanks and the surface of the water reflected my torch light.
But one of the barrels’ reflection was odd. It looked like a metal reflection.
There was something small reflecting the torch light from the bottom of the barrel.
I dumped the water on the ground and it spraed through the room.
It was a ring.
I picked up the small ring from the ground and put it in my pocket.
When I stopped moving it was very silent.
I could here the sounds like a water flow continued.
The sound is not because of damped water.
It looks like a small stream on the wall down to the deep.
I looked around and saw some waterskins hanging on the wall. I took one and filled it up in the other barrel. As I was filling the waterskin, I couldn’t help but notice how calm and quiet the cave was. I could hear the water filling into the waterskin.

With my new gear, I was ready to explore the rest of the cave.
As I went down the other tunnel I thought that there should be someone there.
I slowed down and carefully looked around the corner.
There were three more enemies that looked just like lizard man that I just killed.
Unfortunately, one of them had already noticed me.
Damn it! am I not good at sneaking?
I ran in and swung my mace at the nearest one, but I didn’t feel it connect.
For God’s sake! Did I miss again?
The counter blow cut my leg a little bit.
I didn’t think it would be a good idea to continue swinging the same way.
Because, my attacks were easily anticipated.
I relaxed my muscles and gave a quick, precise swing at the monster.
My blow hit his head.
It smashed his head before he had time to even scream!

One down, three to go. There was one getting out of a sleeping bag. He must have woken up during the battle. The other two were running out the other side of the room.
All of them were running out of the room!
I chased them through the cave, but they split up at a fork in the road.
One path was dark and the other was lit with faint sunlight.
I followed the monsters that run towards the light.
They were having trouble opening a door that led outside.
I caught up to them and swung at him.
He escaped my blow and I almost broke the door.
The door was opened. It looked like a open field.

I escaped from the dark, wet place.
The cave was in a forest. The entrance was surrounded by the rocks.
The sunlight and wind blowing through the green levaes made me feel better.
But, I didn’t feel safe yet because there were people fighting in the green field outside the cave’s entrance.
Two people were fighting against some kobolds.

The Lizard Man in the Cave

The torch light helped me see in the dark.
I decided to go and search the path with no light.
I was just hoping that I would be able to safely find some better equipment before encountering.

I went for a while down the dark path until I came to a door.
It was made out of wood, and it wasn’t locked.
Opening the door slowly and careflly, I found a large pillar in the middle of the room supporting the celling, and two chests against the right wall.
But it wasn’t all good news; I wasn’t the only person in the room.
Another torch light was coming from the other side of pillar.
Damn it!
There was someone else digging inside the chests. And he looked happy.

A lizard man!
Actually, I don’t know how to recognize if it’s a male or a female.
It wasn’t a good time to think about it.
I yelled at him “What are you doing? What’s up?”
He turned around, and looked at me.
He had a dagger. He started to laugh at me.
He said something, but I couldn’t understand.

He had a dagger and stared at me then laughing.
I decided to stop him from joining his colleagues who were probably somewhere in this cave.
This unlucky bastard was my first target.

I grabbed my dagger firmly then attacked it.
The lizard man dodged my swing easily.
But I couldn’t dodged his attack.
I got a substantial wound on my arm.
It really hurt, I could feel blood tricking down to my elbow.
I couldn’t control my body well.
What the hell was going on?
Why did I keep missing this bastard?
I tried stabbing him again, but my dagger only met the air.
The enemy’s retaliation was not keen, and I was easily able to move out of the way.

Lizard man slowly moved towards the door.
Let him go to the cave was obviously not a good idea.
He was going to join his companies somewhere in this cave.
This cave might be their home.

As we traded blows, the lizard man slowly moved towards the door.
Letting him leave the room was obviously not a good idea because he would join his
co-conspirators somewhere in the cave.
I ran and jumped over his head, and drove my dagger into his neck.
I could see his face change with the fear of death.
He became silent.
Now, I could feel safe again.

The Beginning
A Needle in a Haystack

A cold breeze made woke me in the dark.
It wasn’t completely dark, I could see my surroundings, but, my entire body felt sore.
Oooops, I noticed I was tied to the chair.
What the hell was going on? I couldn’t remember anything.
Something terrible thing must have happened to me.

I was slowly getting used to being in the dark and torch light was helping me see a little.
The rope that tied me down to the chair was of pretty poor quality.

I tried to break the rope with my arms.
Just as I was about to give up, the rope broke with a dull noise.

(I flexed as hard as I could, and just as I thought I couldn’t push any harder, I heard a dull snap, and was able to get free.)

I was free!
I grabbed the torch and looked around carefully.
I was in a cave that smelled nasty and there was something that looked like blood on the ground next to a large pile of hay.

In the hay stack, I could see something shiny.
I went there and found a small iron dagger, it was literally a needle in a hay stack.
But actually, It’s not so difficult to find a dagger.

Not the best of weapons, but it should be better than my bare knuckles.

There was only one way out of the room, a wooden door, and it was locked.

Again, the door was of poor quality.

I could break it by slamming into it with my shoulder, but that would be a bad idea.

I don’t want to make a noise because I sitll didn’t know whether my situation is safe or not.
It probably wasn’t.

I took a rock from the ground and hit the lock twice.
Damn it! It’s still made quite a big noise.
Oh well, either way, the door was open.
I left the room that I was tied up in, and went down a cave tunnel.
After a minute or so, it split into two paths.
There was light coming from the right path, but the left path was dark.
